Job Description:

Under minimal supervision, independently and in collaboration with others perform research and conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory procedures for projects; analyze data and interpret results; investigate, troubleshoot, and modify methods and procedures as necessary; may assist in designing experiments; may provide routine equipment maintenance as well as guidance/training to other department personnel; perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned. Will assistant in laboratory set up, including ordering equipment and supplies, equipment set up and maintenance, training personnel.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • The technician will be expected to perform routine scientific tasks related to molecular biology, immunology, virology, and microscopy in an academic laboratory setting.
  • The technician will be expected to work independently and as part of a team to: generate plasmid DNA constructs, perform mammalian cell culture, generate CRISPR knockout mammalian cell lines, perform immunofluorescence assays and smFISH. In addition, technician will perform other routine tasks including operating standard lab equipment of moderate complexity, data recording, and performing other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Requires a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, biotechnology, or microbiology and up to one (1) year of related experience.

Three (3) to six (6) years of related laboratory experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in:

  • Mammalian cell culture experience
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment set up and maintenance
  • Advanced light microscopy
  • Proficiency in virological techniques
  • RNA-sequence analysis
