Job Description:

The Associate Director of Occupational Safety & Risk Management assists in the direction of the EH&S program by:

  • Providing administrative and technical direction for the departments of Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Medicine, Training Support, Insurance Programs and Dive Safety.
  • Guiding the programs of the division; assists in foreseeing the evolving needs of the institution, research possible solutions, assembling applicable information, decision making, planning and formulating policies to operationalize new programs and modifications to existing programs.
  • Staying current on regulatory developments pertinent to the activities of the EH&S and ensuring full compliance.
  • Monitoring the activities of EH&S and analyzing management strategies for improving effectiveness in providing services to the University; assists in determining fiscal, facility and staffing requirements of the division.
  • Maintaining effective communications within the division and with the campus community; serves as liaison with entities outside of UF as needed. Functions as the EH&S Director in that individual’s absence when assigned.
Expected Salary:

Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education & Training:

  • An advanced degree in an appropriate field of science.
  • Appropriate Risk and Safety Management professional education or certification such as CRM, ARM, CRMP, CSP, RMP, CRO, etc.


  • Ten years of appropriate work experience with five years experience in higher education Environmental Heath & Safety


  • Knowledge and understanding of higher education safety and risk management programs.
  • Appropriate Risk and Safety Management professional education or certification such as CRM, ARM, CRMP, CSP, RMP, CRO, etc.


  • Strong organizational and managerial skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
