The Germ Free/ Import & Export Services Animal Care Technician requires the ability to perform regular AACT2 functions described below and specialized duties within the areas of isolator maintenance; packing, shipping and housing of animals in flexible film and Semi-rigid Isolators. Position provides technical and husbandry services. Performs weekly tasks from a list generated by the area manager which include weaning, breeding animals using a variety of different mating schemes, fostering, shipping, weighing animals, rodent restraint, gavage, tail biopsies, ear notching, ear tagging, collecting blood, fecal and urine samples, injections, preparing special diets and medications, filling out various paperwork documenting all procedures performed, and updating and balancing the mouse inventory for investigator colonies. This position requires excellent organizational, record keeping skills, interpersonal and communication skills. This person will be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation of breeding, husbandry and sanitation logs, equipment service logs and autoclave logs. Advanced Animal Care Technician 2 provide basic care of animals and animal facilities by completing primarily simple and routine animal caretaking and cage wash duties as directed by Operations Manager or their designee, which may occur up to 50% of the time of overall job duties and responsibilities. All actions done strictly and consistently following applicable ACS SOPs including safety procedures and policies. Reports any suspected or actual deviations to SOP’s or non-routine situations immediately to Operations Manager or their designee.
