The Department of Animal Sciences is seeking a Beef Program Manager. This position is responsible for leading the design and implementation of research studies associated with the department’s beef programs. The incumbent is responsible for project planning, recruit, ensuring program compliance, and coordinate research subjects. They will also, serve as the principle administrative liaison for projects, monitor the progress of research activities, managing program budgets, prepare reports, and give report on the status of projects and animals to the department’s Beef Committee. Other responsibilities include supervision, training, recruitment, and evaluation of farm staff, students, and volunteers to effectively manage and accomplish the goals of individual projects as well as maintaining safety of all animal handling equipment for the safety of animals and personnel.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for initiative implementation and managing projects. Coordinates and administers research studies associated with all Department of Animal Sciences Beef Programs. Responsible for budget oversight of the Beef Program, including all vendor relationships for appropriate animal, feed, materials and supplies used in the Beef Program. Assists in annual planning of the Beef Program with a focus on capturing efficiency within the Program and across department programs (i.e. Equine and Dairy Programs). Ensures that herd inventory plans, study protocols, and regulatory requirements are followed. Recruits and coordinates research subjects, as appropriate, and serves as principle administrative liaison for projects. Monitors the progress of research activities, prepares periodic reports as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies and regulatory bodies. Reports on status of projects and animals to Department of Animal Sciences Beef Committee.
- Supervision, training, recruitment, and evaluation of farm staff, students, and volunteers to effectively manage and accomplish the goals of individual projects such as Brahman bull sale, heifer development, and harvesting of forages. Maintain safety of all animal handling equipment for the safety of both animals and personnel.
- Plans and coordinates the utilization of animal subjects and resources for research, teaching and extension functions. Coordinates the selection, breeding, and management of Beef Program animals. Collaborates with faculty and industry to support existing programs and implement new programs. Ensures that animals will be strategically located to match available resources with the research, teaching, and extension needs of the department.
- Facilitate extension activities that showcase UF research and projects. Serve as a liaison between industry stakeholders and the Department of Animal Sciences. Conducts due diligence evaluating potential partners and develops and delivers presentations highlighting the value of alliances or partnerships to all involved parties.
- Ensure that projects and unit budgets set forth by the Department Chair remain within set budgetary limits. Other duties as assigned.
Normal work schedule:
This position will require a flexible work week and will often require work weeks exceeding 40 hours, weekend and evening hours as needed. The Unit staff work on a 40-hour work week.
