In 2014, the Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program partnered with the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program with support from Maddie’s Fund to create the Million Cat Challenge, a shelter-based campaign to save the lives of 1 million cats in North America over the course of 5 years. The core strategy of the campaign was centered around 5 key initiatives that offer every shelter, in every community, practical choices to reduce euthanasia and increase live outcomes for sheltered and community cats. By the end of 4 years, more than 1,200 shelters had joined and collectively saved more than 1 million cats. This Phase 1 success led to a Phase 2 expansion of the project to include a deeper focus on one-on-one consultations in shelters, development and dissemination of digital training materials, and broader recruitment reach to engage more shelters where cats are most at risk for euthanasia with the goal of ensuring that every cat presenting to a North American shelter experiences the right care and the right outcome. The MCC Program Manager will support the Phase 2 expansion (3 years) by managing the work of the UF team to assure the success of multiple projects, including shelter consultations, website management, data accrual/validation, recruitment, event planning, and outbound communications. The manager will coordinate projects with the equivalent position at UC Davis, the work of multiple offsite consultants, and faculty/staff at UF by establishing and tracking project work plans and team calendar; developing an organizational structure that ensures that work is identified, owned, and continues moving forward; facilitating effective team communication and operations; prioritizing projects in balance with team capacity and workload; scheduling and facilitating meetings; contributing to the development and maintenance of a strategic plan; assisting as needed with execution of tasks, reporting, and management of partnerships.

You will be required to be vaccinated to work with these animals as many agents are zoonotic. Employee will be registered with the CDC or APHIS for access to select agents. Personnel will be following strict guidelines under the National Select Agent Program (NSAP). Individual must be able to clear DOJ/FBI background checks. This individual will be a part of the ACS and UF/EH&S Biosafety security and incident response plans.
