(CRDF), a direct support organization (DSO) of the University of Florida (UF), and keeping the Board of Directors informed on the progress of all programs. The CRDF is a not-for-profit Florida corporation established under Florida Statute, Chapter 617 which allows the use of UF resources for the conduct of its business but is managed by a corporate board appointed by the UF President. The CRDF was formed in response to the needs of the Florida Citrus industry to address a number of scientific and technological challenges to the citrus industry created by the number of diseases (citrus greening, citrus canker and citrus tristeza virus) which threaten the viability of the industry. There are currently no cost effective, environmentally sound treatments available for these diseases. The seriousness of these diseases has prompted the citrus industry to channel current grower generated tax funds to address these diseases as well as seeking additional grant and private support for the effort. The CRDF will promote research, education, and extension on citrus disease issues related to the Florida citrus industry and stakeholders through a CRDF managed contract program. The CFRF will also actively pursue the commercialization of intellectual property and technologies developed through supported research activities in cooperation with the University of Florida and other leading research institutions.
