The Center for NeuroGenetics at the University of Florida (UF) College of Medicine invites applications for TWO tenure/tenure-track positions at the ASSISTANT, ASSOCIATE or FULL PROFESSOR level. We seek outstanding investigators in the following areas: 1) Neuroscience, neurological disease mechanisms and/or therapeutic development with an emphasis on genetic, computational or pathophysiological disease models; 2) RNA biochemistry with a current or future focus on central nervous system function and disease. The Center has active research programs in human, mouse, and Drosophila genetics together with expertise in gene discovery, RNA biochemistry, structural biology, protein biochemistry, genome editing and computational biology, and is housed in the University of Florida Genetics Institute with contemporary facilities for bioinformatics, genomics and proteomics. In addition to being an active member of the Center, the primary academic appointment will be in a relevant department (e.g., Departments of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Neurology, Neuroscience or Pharmacology and Therapeutics).

The Director, Research Administration is responsible for administering the programs and policies approved by the Board of Directors pertaining to the planning and directing of the activities of the Citrus Research and Development Foundation, Inc. (CRDF), a direct support organization (DSO) of the University of Florida (UF), and keeping the Board of Directors informed on the progress of all programs. The CRDF is a not-for-profit Florida corporation established under Florida Statute, Chapter 617 which allows the use of UF resources for the conduct of its business but is managed by a corporate board appointed by the UF President. The CRDF was formed in response to the needs of the Florida Citrus industry to address a number of scientific and technological challenges to the citrus industry created by the number of diseases (citrus greening, citrus canker and citrus tristeza virus) which threaten the viability of the industry. There are currently no cost effective, environmentally sound treatments available for these diseases. The seriousness of these diseases has prompted the citrus industry to channel current grower generated tax funds to address these diseases as well as seeking additional grant and private support for the effort. The CRDF will promote research, education, and extension on citrus disease issues related to the Florida citrus industry and stakeholders through a CRDF managed contract program. The CFRF will also actively pursue the commercialization of intellectual property and technologies developed through supported research activities in cooperation with the University of Florida and other leading research institutions.

The Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) works with departments and Principal Investigators (PIs) to recognize, evaluate, and control hazards associated with laboratory or research chemical operations. With support from other EHS personnel and appropriate departmental staff, the CHO will ensure all activities related to the use of hazardous chemicals in laboratories or research are conducted in a safe and compliant manner and that UF Chemical Hygiene Plans meet or exceed the requirements of the OSHA Laboratory Standard, 29 CFR1910.1450. The CHO will also work with PIs and lab staff to ensure UF Chemical Hygiene Plans complement laboratory-specific risk assessments and safety-oriented standard operating procedures (SOPs).

This position will provide genetic counseling services in a busy academic clinical cardiovascular setting that includes patients with familial aortic diseases, as well as connective tissue disorders, e.g., Marfan Syndrome. This position will report to the Director of the UF Aortic Disease Center and will work in collaboration with a team of physicians and researchers in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, cardiology, and vascular surgery. This position will be responsible for managing genetic counseling interactions during medical clinics, coordinating genetic testing and follow-up visits, providing test results to patients, obtaining/reviewing medical records, and conducting outreach to patient, families and stakeholders. The position will be instrumental in designing and implementing systems to collect, maintain, and analyze operational data.
