The ICBR, founded in 1987, is an auxiliary research support organization providing key biomolecular technology services beneficial to the University of Florida life sciences research community. We seek a doctorate-level scientist with training and experience in FACS sorting and FACS Analysis and Fluorescent Microscopy. The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, combined with a broad understanding of key Immunological and Cellular/Cancer Biology with an integrated understanding of Flow Cytometry Instrument operations. This position is an OPS position for 20 hours per week in the Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research. The ICBR is a fee for service center that focuses on customer service and assists others to achieve their research goals. A successful candidate will assist in laboratory work utilizing basic recombinant DNA techniques and cell culture methodology for performing CRISPR-based genome editing in mammalian cells. Specific laboratory methods used will include lentivirus construction and packaging in a mammalian cell line, transduction of mammalian cells grown in monolayer and suspension with recombinant lentiviruses containing CRISPR Cas9 and sgRNA genes, and selection of puromycin or other antibiotic resistance marker in transduced cells. In addition, the individual will carry out in vitro assays using PCR to assess the degree of success in allelic targeting using CRISPR. Additional duties include routine mammalian cell line maintenance and cryopreservation, and monitoring laboratory supply inventory. May be asked to participate in customer consultation meetings to discuss technical aspects of projects.
