Job Description:

This position is responsible for planning and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the exhibits and awards programs as well as assisting with direct marketing efforts for the State University System Press (University Press of Florida). The focus of the work will be to raise the profile of the press’s books and boost sales by identifying appropriate UPF publications for book displays and prize nominations, by preparing descriptive copy, and by assisting with the planning and execution of direct-to-consumer campaigns.

Specific duties include:

  • Exhibits Program
      • Plans, budgets, and executes UPF book exhibits at approximately 22 staff-attended conferences and book fairs per year.
      • Sends materials for display at additional un-staffed exhibits.
      • Identifies most appropriate books to display at each meeting.
      • Directs preparation of all display materials, including order forms, signs, flyers, program ads, brochures, and booklets.
      • Packs and ships books and exhibit supplies.
      • Creates and posts exhibit-related announcements and recaps on social media, as well as exhibit-related email promotions via an email service provider.
  • Awards Program
      • Identifies appropriate UPF titles for submission to a variety of book awards.
      • Ensures the timely submission of materials well in advance of award deadlines.
      • Creates and posts announcements of award wins on Facebook, Twitter, and Wordpress.
  • Direct Marketing Program
      • Purchases and revises mailing lists for direct marketing campaigns.
      • Prepares copy for promotional mailings.
      • Proofreads final materials.
      • Creates and sends email promotions and pitches via an email service provider.
  • Descriptive Copy
      • Writes book marketing copy for seasonal catalogs and book covers.
  • Internship Program
      • Helps solicit applications, review materials, and hire 2-3 students interns per semester.
      • Helps supervise intern activities.
Expected Salary:  $30,000.00 annually.
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience; or an associate’s degree and four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Computer literate, with a strong working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (especially MS Word and Excel), database programs (such as Access or FileMaker), email marketing programs (such as MailChimp or Constant Contact), and social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WordPress, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Cat’s Pajamas Publisher Program and Adobe InDesign is helpful.
