Job Description:

The Veterinary Technician position in UF’s Cardiology department assists with the following: receiving cardiology patients for evaluation and rechecks, performing nursing care functions such as venipuncture and blood pressure measurement, instructing veterinary students in general technical skills as well as specialized cardiology nursing and echocardiography, client and referring veterinarian communication, assist with cardiology procedures both in the catheterization lab and the treatment area, and assisting clinicians in performing exams and procedures on patients, among other responsibilities.

This position requires independent, precise care of animals under the direction of doctors and manager, as well as thorough, professional, and pleasant communication with a wide range of clients, doctors, students, and co-workers.

The ideal candidate has ample experience in veterinary medicine, excellent communication and organization skills, and an interest in teaching.

This position requires a post offer health assessment.

Advertised Salary:

Starting salary is $14.00 to $17.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Veterinary Technician I:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of veterinary experience or one year of veterinary experience and currently enrolled in a veterinary technician program or a graduate of a veterinary technician program.

Veterinary Technician II:

Credentialed veterinary technician and four years of veterinary experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Graduation from an accredited veterinary technology program and/or certified veterinary technician
  2. Veterinary Technician Specialization certification in Cardiology
  3. Knowledge of animal care and nursing
  4. Specific knowledge of echocardiograms, electrocardiography, and cardiac anatomy
  5. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and terminology
  6. Knowledge of the equipment and materials used and their availability and applications
  7. Ability to effectively maintain a working environment while in stressful situations
  8. Ability to effectively communicate with employees of various levels and responsibilities
  9. Excellent communication skills in person, via email, and over the telephone
  10. Good computer skills
  11. Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations
  12. Ability to prioritize and make timely decisions
  13. Ability to work within a team
  14. Ability to multitask as well as ability to set and change priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining a positive attitude
