Job Description:
  • Participates in research to support the Plant Physiology program at the Southwest Florida Research and Education Center (SWFREC) in Immokalee, FL. The incumbent will assist in one or more phases of the research process by performing a variety of technical duties. Duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting horticultural evaluations of various citrus field trials in different locations in Florida.  Evaluation procedures will include measurements of tree size and health assessment, and fruit quality and yields
  • Collecting and processing tissue samples such as leaves and roots for laboratory analysis
  • Detailed recording, summarizing, and managing data and preparing graphs and tables using standard software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Maintaining basic scientific or other laboratory and field equipment in a safe condition
  • May be required to travel to offsite fields
Advertised Salary:

Salary commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent with two years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. 

Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in an appropriate area of specialization, or a high school diploma or equivalent with two or more years of related experience equipping the incumbent with knowledge, skills, and expertise to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of agricultural production systems
  • Ability to efficiently use Microsoft Word or Excel
  • Ability to plan and coordinate assignments effectively
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory practices
  • Ability to adhere to safe laboratory and other practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written
  • Ability to establish an effective working relationship with others
  • Ability to follow rules and regulations
