Job Description:

The Department of Neuroscience welcomes motivated candidates, interested in joining our research team investigating neurobiological mechanisms of cognition to apply for our newly created OPS Biological Scientist III position. Under the direction of the Principle Investigator, the ideal candidate must be able to perform the following essential functions;

  • Conduct molecular and biochemical assays that involve preparing, analytical, and quantitative molecular and biochemical techniques. These assays will include preparation of buffers and other laboratory solutions or reagents, dissection or sub-dissection of tissue specimens, isolation/fractionation of nucleic acids or proteins from tissue homogenates, and processing brain samples using colorimetric/fluorimetric assays, ELISA, RIA, PCR, SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting.  
  • Other responsibilities will include maintaining a current inventory of chemicals, biological reagents and consumables and ensuring that laboratory practices within the lab remain in compliance with all University regulations. Responsibilities may include animal behavior and care.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and have the ability to work as part of a dynamic laboratory team.
Advertised Salary:

$15.00 - $22.00/hourly; Commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required, with coursework in chemistry and biochemistry strongly preferred.  Candidates must have at least two years of experience with in vitro molecular/biochemical assays that includes independent trouble-shooting and optimization of new protocols. Other required skills include proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis and an ability to compile data and provide both written and oral updates to laboratory members weekly.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Biochemistry or related field. Prior experience with animals and statistical packages such as GraphPad Prism, SPSS or R is preferred.
