Job Description:

The Custodial Supervisor is a supervisory position assisting the Custodial Superintendent for the Keys, Springs, Lakeside and Graduate Family Housing areas in supporting the mission of the Department of Housing & Residence Education. Employee must be familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and prioritize job duties to ensure completion of assignments and goals. Exercises a high degree of creativity and latitude when planning job duties for area task. The employee is responsible for providing and maintaining the highest level of service and operating efficiency in the areas of cleanliness, sanitation, and general appearance of assigned residence halls, graduate family housing villages, and administrative offices. This employee will have sole responsibility for the weekend cleaning activities during the regular academic term not including summer cleaning activities. The employee is responsible for exercising a considerable amount of independent judgment in solving a variety of routine administrative and operational problems. The employee’s shift includes working on Saturdays. Employee will be required to work during peak periods, and holidays to ensure the maintenance of sanitary living conditions throughout the residence halls. Employee may be required to perform or assist with cleaning duties as necessary. 

 - Supervises and plans the work of assigned employees in a manner that facilitates and encourages outstanding performance and high morale. Responsible for providing guidance and training during the Saturday shift. Ensures that all employees are trained properly in the safe use of equipment and cleaning supplies, and that they follow prescribed cleaning methods and procedures. Provides to employees all supplies, the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) needed to satisfactorily complete assigned work. Completes records of discussions, annual performance appraisals, along with ensuring monthly safety meetings are held with assigned direct reports. Ensure that all areas meet the level 2 standard for APPA’s cleaning standards as outlined and followed by the Department of Housing and Residence Education. This position will have oversight over the Keys Facility and its staff.

 - Responsible for achieving and maintaining the highest level of cleanliness in assigned areas, but as a minimum, to prescribed levels. Conducts weekly inspections of all assigned areas and documents cleanliness levels as satisfactory or unsatisfactory. Responsible for discussing inspection results with assigned employees. Assist the Custodial Superintendent with the review of vacant position applicant pools and participate in new hire interviews.

 - Responsible for counseling with assigned employees regarding minor infractions of work rules, disciplinary guidelines, and violations of university policies and procedures. Reports violations to the Custodial Services Superintendent and/or the Associate Director of Housing for Building Services to ensure consistency in the administering of discipline within the Building Services Department.

- Approves leave requests and timecards for assigned personnel  

Advertised Salary:

$14.90 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education & Training: High school diploma (or equivalent) and/or relevant certifications

Experience: Prefer experience working in the custodial industry for a University/college residence hall or large apartment complex/hotel

- Understanding of the State/University system
- Familiarity with University of Florida student culture
- Knowledge of University of Florida campus at large
- Working knowledge of industry standards and technology
- Working knowledge of APPA ( Association of Physical Plant Administrators) cleaning standards
- Computer literacy

Physical Qualifications:
- Heavy lifting (moving of 45 pounds or more)

- Other types of physical exertion necessary for task completion

  • Are you able to work Tuesday - Friday from 7:45 am - 4:15 pm and Saturday and Sunday( on home football games) from 7:00 am -  3:30 pm and additional hours during peak weeks?
