This is a 12-month non-tenure-accruing position that will be 100% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, available in the Entomology and Nematology Department, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit.
Duties will include developing a premier educational program related to pest management and biosecurity that includes the development of a biosecurity certificate under the entomology major. Primary responsibilities include teaching existing distance-delivered courses in Insect Pest and Vector Management (ENY 5236), Exotic Species and Biosecurity Issues (ALS416) as well as revising and developing additional related courses, both traditional (classroom) and distance, depending on the successful candidate’s interests and needs of the department. Contributions to the department’s distance education programs including the on-line M.S. degree and certificate programs and to advising M.S. non-thesis online students is expected. Working with the Distance Education Coordinator to promote the department’s on-line programs is encouraged.
Because of the IFAS land-grant mission, all faculty are expected to be supportive and engaged in all three mission areas – Research Teaching, and Extension – regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.
The Entomology and Nematology Department (http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/) has diverse teaching, research, and extension programs with 29 faculty members located on the main campus in Gainesville plus 38 faculty located at 11 Research and Education Centers (RECs) throughout the state.
Commensurate with Education and Experience
A master's or doctoral degree (foreign equivalent acceptable) in some combination of entomology, pest management, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should have significant teaching experience, demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, and interpersonal relationships. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.
Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience is desirable. A working knowledge of distance education and delivery of on-line education programs as well as experience in instructional design is also strongly desired.
