The University of Florida College of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a core department of the College of Medicine, one of the six health science colleges located on the University of Florida’s 2,000-acre campus in Gainesville, Florida. The health science center colleges combine with our major teaching affiliate, Shands Hospital, to create UFHealth, https://ufhealth.org/. The College of Medicine ranks in the top 20 public medical schools and graduates 135 physicians each year, http://med.ufl.edu/ . The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has twenty-one clinical faculty, two research faculty, one clinical embryologist, sixteen residents and three fellows in Maternal Fetal Medicine. Members of the department perform 2,700 deliveries and 1,300 surgical cases, with 65,000 clinic visits annually. Faculty actively collaborate with providers and programs in the Neonatal ICU, Genetics, Urology, Anesthesiology, Colorectal Surgery, Oncology and Family Medicine. Current research projects focus on wound research within the UF Institute for Wound Research and perinatal research in collaboration with the Department of Physiology and Functional Genomics and the Colleges of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture and Life Science. The chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Medicine and has responsibility for the overall administrative, academic, and clinical performance of the department.
Candidates must have a MD, or equivalent degree, and be eligible for appointment as Professor in the University of Florida system in either a clinical or tenure-track position. Candidates must hold current ABMS certification in their specialty with active participation in clinical practice and must be eligible for a Florida medical license.
The successful candidate must have leadership experience in a complex academic health care center preferably at both the departmental and institutional level. The candidate should have national visibility in the profession. The chair must demonstrate dedication to improving the health of the community, training the next generation and advancing the science of women’s health and maternal and fetal outcomes.
The successful chair must be committed to patient safety and high quality care and be able to recruit faculty and staff of the highest skill level for a very complex practice while mentoring current faculty to be successful in their careers. The chair will understand the importance of collegial participation within the department and across the College of Medicine in advancing the goals of the institution.
