Job Description:

The position will gather and analyze business requirements for the Office of Research. Duties include: Collaborating with end users and IS staff to design technical solutions. Translating requirements into functional specifications. Provides estimates of the development effort based on requirements. Involved in the full development life cycle; design, code, test, implement, maintain, support, testing & deployment.

The position will be responsible for developing and driving project timelines; coordination with internal and external resources. The position requires a professional, results oriented attitude and attention to detail. Project management duties include coordinating application developer tasks, team leadership, and best practices in a team environment; object-oriented design and development; data analysis, database design and SQL development; software testing and quality assurance; software documentation; end user technical support.

The position will participate in the design, development, testing and deployment of automated systems and other tools to improve quality and productivity of the research enterprise. The position will participate in the determination of requirements, and assist with the evaluation, design, and development and implementation of information systems. In all efforts, proper documentation for all systems and solutions will be maintained.

The position will participate in short-range planning and provide input to long-range planning regarding emerging data and systems issues.

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate area of specialization and a minimum two years of experience in business analysis, project management, designing, testing, debugging and deploying web applications and their related databases in current technologies.  Experience with .NET, ASP, HTML, CSS, Java Script and other object oriented languages is preferred.  Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) a plus.  Experience with analysis of UI development would be considered beneficial.  Experience with SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL a plus.  The successful candidate should have the desire and ability to learn additional technologies as projects demand.

The candidate must be highly analytical, demonstrate problem-solving skills and be able to communicate clearly and effectively.  The successful applicant will demonstrate an independent work initiative, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, diplomacy and a professional demeanor. A desire to be immersed in the inner workings of research administration and compliance at a major research university is required.
