Job Description:

This is a position that requires a motivated, well-organized and caring individual.  This individual must be knowledgeable and skillful in anesthesia and nursing care of small animal patients. The individual must be able to interact with students, staff, and clients in a caring and professional manner.
 
** Animal Care:

a. Provide lead veterinary technician support for VCOP (stationary and mobile). Must have excellent knowledge and experience in small animal anesthesia and surgery. Experience with anesthesia of pediatric patients is desired
b. Observe and report perioperative changes in patient status.
c. Demonstrate caring behavior with all patients, and communicate effectively with local rescue group clients of the service.
d. Participate in and provide technical support for animal shelter visits and community clinics as needed.
 
** Oversight (Training, Schedule, Ordering and Equipment):
a. Oversee the daily functioning of the community outreach surgical suite and mobile surgical unit
b. Handle and track controlled substances for large volumes of surgical patients

c. Orient veterinary students and OPS staff in their duties and responsibilities.
d. Assist in developing training programs for technicians and other support staff.
e. Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage while minimizing downtime and overtime.

f. Ensure all OPS technician shifts are filled when necessary.

g. Order and maintain all nursing and patient care related equipment and supplies.
h. Stock supplies in general storage area.
i. Ensure hospital equipment is in working order.

** Maintain areas:
a. Coordinate with staff to maintain and keep all areas clean and organized. 
b. Responsible for ensuring cleaning and upkeep of all surgical, animal holding, and communal areas.
c. Help to maintain all equipment within rooms.
d. Monitor drugs and supplies for expiration dates, and stock supplies when needed.
e. Submit work orders as needed and maintain records.

Advertised Salary:

$35,000 - $45,000 commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and four years of veterinary experience. Credentialed veterinary technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) or Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM). Valid Florida Driver's License. Must be up to date on tetanus vaccination.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with an AA, AS, BS, BA degree in Veterinary Technology. Candidates must be a licensed CVT or LVT. Practical work experience in an academic hospital environment or equivalent education and practical experience in private veterinary practice is desired.

3. Knowledge of the equipment and materials used in a veterinary hospital and their availability and applications.
4. Ability to effectively maintain a positive working environment while in stressful situations.
5. Ability to effectively communicate with employees of various levels and responsibilities.
6. Working knowledge of Excel and Word computer programs.
