Agricultural Assistant II
30% - Pesticide Application – Incumbent is responsible for coordinating and implementing all pesticide applications performed at the Live Oak Demonstration Unit. This includes, but is not limited to, fumigant applications, insecticide applications, herbicide applications and fungicide applications. These applications will need to be made on a wide variety of crops and use a wide variety of application techniques and materials as a critical aspect of the projects and research conducted at the Unit. Incumbent must be able to perform calibration, dilution and volume calculations.
30% - Fertigation and Fertilizer Application – Incumbent is responsible for coordinating and implementing all fertilization and fertigation of crops on project and research at the Unit. This includes ordering fertilize materials, mixing proper ratios and blends and making the applications. Incumbent must be able to perform calibration and dilution and volume calculations as a critical aspect of the research conducted at the Unit.
20% - Record Keeping and Inventory – Incumbent is responsible for pesticide, fertilizer and fertigation record keeping for the Unit. This includes ensuring all IFAS, state and federal regulations regarding pesticide records are followed and ensuring all record keeping is up to date at all times. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining inventory of fertilizers and pesticides. This includes ordering materials and needed supplies.
15% - Equipment Maintenance – Incumbent is responsible for maintaining all application equipment in proper working order. This includes fumigant applicators, liquid pesticide applicators, dry pesticide applicators and fertilizer applicators and fertigation equipment. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining an inventory of needed parts necessary to keep equipment functional at all times.
5% - Crop Scouting – Incumbent is responsible for crop scouting and delivery of a weekly scouting report to farm manager. Incumbent will communicate about pest and fertility issues with the farm manager on a regular basis to ensure proper management of project cropping systems.
$14 to $16 hourly
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Public pesticide license will be required within 60 days of hire.
Experience with pesticide, fertigation and fertilizer applications and record keeping.
Experience with equipment operation and repair (tractors and sprayers).
The ability to establish and maintain and effective working relationship with others.
