Job Description:

The University of Florida Large Animal Hospital is recruiting for a Large Animal Veterinary Treatment Technician 1 or 2 to work primarily afterhours, weekends and holidays included. This is a position that requires an experienced, motivated, well-organized and caring individual treating primarily equines but also includes caprine, camelid, ovine and bovine patients. 

  • As a member of our nursing staff you will instruct veterinary students in technical skills and perform medical treatments and procedures under the supervision of a veterinarian.
  • In addition to strong communication and leadership skills, must be proficient in patient handling and monitoring, supportive therapy and treatments, emergency procedures as well as the ability to accommodate shift work in a unit that is open 24/7. 
  • Additionally, you may be called up to act as a surgical nurse for emergency surgeries, help to maintain a sanitary and functionally well-organized service within the UF Large Animal Hospital.  
Advertised Salary:

Starting salary is $14.00/hour; commensurate with experience. 

Minimum Requirements:

Large Animal Hospital Treatment Technician I

High School Diploma; two years of work experience loading, unloading, restraining, handling and treating horses or one (1) year of work experience loading, unloading, restraining, handling and treating horses in a veterinary academic teaching hospital. Certification or licensure as a Veterinary Technician preferred.

Large Animal Hospital Treatment Technician II

High School Diploma; four years of work experience loading, unloading, restraining, handling and treating  horses or two (2) years of work experience loading, unloading, restraining, handling and treating horses in a veterinary academic teaching hospital; and certification or licensure as a Veterinary Technician.

Preferred Qualifications:

Currently hold certification as a Veterinary Technician.
