The Department of Epidemiology, in both the College of Public Health and Health Professions and the College of Medicine at the University of Florida Health Sciences Center, invites applications for a full-time established investigator with an actively funded research program in cancer epidemiology. The successful candidate, under the Cancer Preeminence Initiative as Division Director of Cancer Epidemiology, will lead an expansion of cancer epidemiology with the goal of accelerating research on cancer causes, control and prevention in the Department, across the six Colleges of the University of Florida Health Science Center (Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine) and the UF Health Cancer Center.
The Director of the Division of Cancer Epidemiology will assist the UF Health Cancer Center in the development of a successful application for NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center status. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to work with other faculty in the Department of Epidemiology on HealthStreet, the community engagement program of the University, to continue to expand the cancer cohort for cohort discovery for cross-sectional and longitudinal studies. This general population cohort from urban, rural and suburban locations across Florida, will identify risk factors for developing chronic physical and mental health problems such as cancer, hypertension, diabetes, depression, infectious diseases, as well as drug use and addiction. Opportunities for clinical practice are available through our Health Science Center Colleges.
The University of Florida, a member of the AAU, is located in Gainesville, Florida; the six colleges of the Health Science Center are co-located on the Gainesville campus, with additional teaching, research, and patient care sites in Jacksonville. It is the most comprehensive public university in the State of Florida, with large undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate educational programs. Florida is the third most populous state in the US.
The Division Director will collaborate with a robust cancer research program ongoing at the UF Health Cancer Center and across the University. Academic appointment and tenure will be in the Department of Epidemiology at the associate professor or full professor rank commensurate with experience and accomplishment. Compensation includes an excellent benefits package with startup funds for research programs.
The ideal candidate is an established investigator with a strong reputation in scholarship, as evidenced by a track record of independent cancer research funding, and the expertise and desire to build a research and training program in cancer control or epidemiology. Experience in research program leadership and administration, research education and training is desirable.
